Patek Philippe has recently enlarged its iconic Gondolo collection by the new Ref. 4949 ladies' watch. The peculiarity of the tonneau-shaped timepiece is revealed through the diamonds sparkling not on the outside part of the case but inside along the bezel beneath the crystal. The flanks of the watch feature a very special reliefed, braided tress pattern.
Patek Philippe belongs to the very limited number of watchmaking companies that produce their watch cases in-house, applying traditional manufacturing technology. The company's tooling department employs specialists who construct, mill and polish the high- precision dies by hand following numerous time-consuming steps. As a result, even the raw watch cases are characterized by perfectly smooth surfaces.
After the case has been die-formed, it goes through many stages of manual finishing, thus acquiring the matchless Patek Philippe character. The Gondolo case is subjected to grinding and polishing process. The braided relief is manually sandblasted in the most careful way to gain the one-of-a-kind matte sheen.
The new Patek Philippe Gondolo Ref. 4949 ladies' watch indicates the time with help of two refined white-gold hands. The dial created in a champagne hue displays hour-marker periphery embellished with a radiant guilloche pattern. There are applied Roman numerals crafted in 18K white gold at 12 and 6 o'clock. The date aperture is positioned at 3 o'clock. The dial is framed by two rows of diamonds, 13 Top Wesselton stones on every side.

It comprises 80 individual parts, with seven jewels among them. It is conducted by a quartz crystal operating at a frequency of 32,768 hertz.
The hour and minute hands together with the date disc are driven by a tiny stepper motor. The crown is used for operating the timepiece. It has a halfway position to allow instant date adjustments. The outermost battery-saver position may be used for interrupting the power circuit when the timepiece will not be in use for a considerable period of time.
