Patek Philippe Creates Exclusive Diamond-Decorated Timepiece for Men

In 2007 Patek Philippe has created a valuable version of classic column-wheel chronograph - Reference 5971. The timepiece's case is crafted from 950 platinum. Its bezel, dial and buckle is set with baguette diamonds.

The case of the new Ref. 5971 is a true masterpiece of the jeweler's art. Patek Philippe watchmakers faced a lot of challenges while working with platinum as this precious metal resists milling, punching, drilling and polishing. Yet, the brand's specialists managed to create the case of impressive weight and unique color.

Following the steps of other Patek Philippe watches produced from platinum, the Ref. 5971 reveals a tiny diamond placed between the lugs at 6 o'clock. The watch's broadened bezel is adorned with 36 baguette diamonds. The manufacture's in-house jewelers, most experienced in their craft, have opted for flawless white Top Wesselton diamonds.

The Ref. 5971 is equipped with the exclusive mechanical caliber CH 27-70 Q movement, the most aesthetically appealing classic columnwheel chronograph mechanism. Patek Philippe committed Nouvelle Lemania for producing the ebauche that was further improved at the Geneva workshops. It is fitted with a perpetual calendar that automatically accounts for the difference in days number in each month, with leap years being no exception.

The movement of the Ref. 5971 catches the eye due to the marvelous contrasts of frosted surfaces, mirrored bevels, artistic decorations, and magic combination of 353 individual parts. The movement comprises a Gyromax balance, and the column wheel with a polished cap. The mechanisms ticks at a rate of 18,000 semi-oscillations per hour. The watch's chronograph function measures time intervals with one-fifth of a second accuracy. The watch is developed with two case backs: a sapphire-crystal back and solid platinum back.

The black dial of the Ref. 5971 displays a wide range of time indications. The two white-gold leaf-shaped hands indicate the hours and minutes, while a really thin central sweep hand indicates the chronograph seconds. There are two small apertures at 12 o'clock featuring date and month of the perpetual calendar. The sub-dials feature the running seconds. The 24-hour indicator is found at 9 o'clock. The 30-minute chronograph counter and the leap-year display are placed at 3 o'clock. As for the analog date and the moon phase, they are positioned at 6 o'clock.
